Born in Finland in 1976, Aleksi Perälä has been an independent producer and a prolific electronic music composer for over 20 years. Aleksi reflects that growing up in Finland has influenced his music deeply; nature has been inspirational because it can be breathtakingly beautiful.

His first release on Rephlex Records was under the pseudonym Ovuca in ’99. The album included the best of his demo tapes ’89-‘97. Since then, he has released numerous EPs, albums and compilation tracks under a number of different aliases on the label.

Aleksi’s most recent releases – ‘Project V’ [‘07], his ‘Boom Blaster’ EP [’09] and his latest album ‘Mental Union 1’ [’09] are the reflections of continual advancements in his experience, knowledge and understanding of music, acoustics and sound. [Boom Blaster contains his first Hertz frequency mathematics and sine wave based track called ‘The Moon’, followed by similar experiments in Mental Union]. Aleksi simply states that these releases are to him a representation of the vivid and evocative genre of Braindance. They are a natural progression from the familiar sounds of Ovuca and Astrobotnia but with his newer, more mature perspective.

Aleksi has since continued his passionate and relentless production of music. To be expected in 2011 is a second ‘Boom Blaster’ EP and CD album and the eagerly anticipated ‘Mental Union 2’. All of this and Aleksi has moved to Cornwall [UK] and he asserts that 2010 has been another ‘premier cru’ year for his music with influence drawn from his Cornish experience so far.

Alongside these many expected releases for 2011 and beyond, is Aleksi’s forward focus towards more gigs and tours. Knowledge of Aleksi’s previous gigs means that this is the promise of many great and diverse experiences. From lush atmospheres in beautiful clubs, art centres or museums to laser magic in huge warehouse raves. From ambient forest gatherings with the Northern Lights to brain-melting raves with audio-visual mayhem.

2011 will witness the re-launch of Aleksi’s website. Aleksi says that it is being built to act as an inspirational and educational hub for anyone who loves sound and good music. Music plays a role in everybody’s life. Aleksi hopes that through the creation of his music he can be a part of yours.

Mixing neo-electro, minimal techno and other flavors of underground dance music, D’Arcangelo consists of twin brothers Fabrizio and Marco D’Arcangelo. Lovers of new wave and dark synth pop, the twins met the likeminded Max Durante and formed Automatic Sound Unlimited. The project premiered in 1992 with the Roman’s Attak EP and lasted two years before it dissolved.

Two years later the twins would cement their status with a self-titled EP on Rephlex, a fitting home alongside hero and influence, Richard D. James aka Aphex Twin. With their appreciation of noisy synths, D’Arcangelo fit perfectly with the label’s idea of a “Braindance” movement and the dislocated dance music that defined it. Another EP for Rephlex and half of a split 7″ on the Suction label appeared before the debut full-length, Shipwreck, arrived in 1999. A bit less noisy were 2002′s second full-length for Rephlex, Broken Toys’ Corner, and that year’s remix EP for White Leather, Corner. They appeared on Rephlex’s limited-edition soundtrack to the video game Manhunt in 2004, then returned to their slow pace by waiting till 2006 for their next release, the Pro 188 EP.

With the duo back on a roll, the full-length Eksel landed in 2007 follwed by a some remixes an EP for 030303 records “Cradle and GO!” and their Rephlex album “The Album”.

Early sonic experiments prompted Dave Robinson, Editor of Future Music (November 1995, Issue 37), to write: “We boldly call ourselves Future Music. But how often do we bring you something so forward-looking, yet at the same time so contemporary that it might – just might set the agenda for the next post-techno, post-analogue phase?”
